Follow your North Star

Follow your North Star

Over 50 weeks ago, I embarked on a journey to share my "Beyond the Status Quo – Career Lessons for the Next Generation," comprising 50 lessons. Along the way, I received invaluable feedback from readers of various ages, which not only helped refine each lesson but also enriched my own learning. It became evident that there exists a significant need for our younger generation not to be merely lectured at but to engage in thoughtful conversations about forging successful, fulfilling careers while retaining their individuality and self-worth.

I maintain my belief that the current generation, in their twenties and early thirties, is as industrious and dedicated as any before them. However, they possess a distinct inclination toward carving out their own paths, diverging from traditional trajectories, and challenging conventional norms. Yet, they face unprecedented pressure and the prospect of being the first cohort in recent history to potentially experience less economic prosperity than their parents.

My writing journey commenced with the exploration of "Identifying your own moral and behavioral NorthStar," making it fitting to conclude with a focus on "Following your own NorthStar." It's easy to become distracted or disoriented amidst the myriad of choices and expectations, but with a firm foundation, one can navigate the complexities of a long and hopefully fulfilling professional journey.

While adhering to your values may sometimes entail professional sacrifices, I firmly advocate that it is the only path to constructing a gratifying life—one where you can look back with pride at the impact you've made. Formulate your own, write them down, repeat them, and then live them as best as you an every single day.
